At the end of 2019, I was ready to find the right opportunities for growth. I reviewed my year and projected what I saw in my future for 2020. That’s what vision is about after all. It is the act of writing down where you plan to be located in your progress after a certain period of time.
In 2019, I got the opportunity to be on both local radio and TV in Trinidad and Tobago. I had a thought in my mind that I wanted to share more on how to build your vision with my country, so I wrote a proposal to the TV network I had been interviewed by earlier in 2019. I had an idea for a new show that would bring a new audience to them (especially as my interview was quite a HIT!). They were excited about the proposal and were working towards the funds to finance this new production. After several months, I ended 2019 with the network not being able to bring the program on board. I was disappointed but not devastated. I simply put the proposal aside and I focused on the bigger picture of my vision for 2020.
Write the Vision
Here’s what I wrote a part of my vision for 2020, “my voice will be heard across Trinidad and Tobago”. So with vision in mind, I planned for it. No longer with the TV show in mind but with all the other avenues that I had access to. I wrote for Divine Purpose Magazine; I started my Monday Night IG Live broadcasts on my IG page @thevisionbuilderco and I served small business owners in the Caribbean and the diaspora with my content and conversations.
So where am I going with this story? While doing what I needed to do so serve who I planned to serve, I was presented with an opportunity to have my own TV show – a TV show not just for Trinidad and Tobago but for the entire world! Listen, I kid you not! I was sitting at my desk doing my client work and the opportunity arrived in my inbox. The question is: Is this the right opportunity given my experience with the local TV network?
Vision helps you to spot the right opportunities
Here’s what helped me to answer the question: MY VISION. In particular, the line in my vision “my voice will be heard across Trinidad and Tobago”. When I thought about this opportunity, it connected directly with what I had written in my vision and I did not need a stretch of my imagination to see the connection. You see, here is the moral of this story, you may not be able to spot the right opportunities because you have no clear idea of where you want to go. You need to have a vision! That’s the only way that you can actually figure out if an opportunity fits or recognize the right opportunity.
